Fine white lines trace cracks across the soil, the way parched earth splits open in the heat. Circular forms swell beneath the dotwork like worn stones or the ghost of old waterholes pressed into the ground.

Below, the country gives way to water. Layered dots build a swelling tide of blues, moving in long currents across the canvas. Near the base, two pale circles emerge from the darker depths. These are the still centres of waterholes, ringed by the marks of everything that has gathered there.

The work sits within Sarrita's Earth Elements series, where she reads the textures and forms of the Australian landscape from above. She often speaks of the language of the earth, the idea that every crack and ripple is the ground telling its story. Here the conversation is between dry country and water, the two forces that shape life across the north.

Sarrita is a Gurindji Waanyi woman raised in Darwin, daughter of the late William King Jungala. She learned the dotting technique from her father and carries his teaching about the connection of all things. Her hand is steady and patient. The dots do not decorate the surface. They build it, grain by grain, the way wind builds a dune or rain fills a hollow.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0568/0001/8599/files/DDSK26060-Sarrita_King-2026-Earth_Elements-90x120-1scan_2026-06-15_05-18-21_web2000.jpg?v=1782361787
